We went to Moss Park in Orlando today to check out the hiking trails. Bummer that the trails leading into Split Oak Forest were flooded so we weren’t able to go there. I really wanted to see THE Split Oak! Supposedly there is a two-hundred-year-old tree that was split in half but survived!
We did get to walk the trail called Bear Island Nature Walk. Even though it was only a 1/2 mile loop, it still took us 45 minutes to walk due to the terrain. The path was kinda hard to follow (i.e. see), but even so was still manageable with the jogging stroller. Boopster ran most of the time, but did ride in the stroller for a few minutes to catch his breath. I was a little protective of him getting more than a few feet away from me for fear of rattlesnakes and cottonmouths, as the habitat was suitable for both snakes. However, we saw no snakes. We did get to see some deer and quail though!
Overall, a great park for a short family outing on a lazy Sunday. I would definitely recommend this park for curious Florida kids!
